The first $300 in sales will go to sponsor an orphan in Afghanistan for one year. Please see http://www.parsa-afghanistan.org/ for more information. I plan to visit the UAE soon and will donate proceeds of my book to Feline/K9 Friends there. In the US, I will visit New Orleans and donate books to schools that are still suffering from Katrina's devastation. If you have a particular charity that you feel this book can benefit, please contact me. In 2008, it's all about doing for others. Let's work together to make this a great year.

Cheers, Leslie

Welcome to ExpatCats.com, home of Watered Down Purple Flag Publishing, Leslie J. Holland author, and Expat Cats: a Book for Humans and Cats of All ages.

Expat Cats is the story of two Persian Desert cats, Sheiky and Puffy, who leave their home in the Middle East to find suspicion, and ultimately, acceptance in Post-9/11 America.

Expat Cats

There are lessons for the whole family in this story as two Middle Eastern cats move to a new home during a difficult time in the US. Sheiky and Puffy learn that there can be heroism in something as simple as kindness and understanding. Making friends with those who are different can change a cat or a person's life for the better.

Ramadan Fast-a-Thon

I encourage you all to join me in fasting on October 22, 2006! From the article in Newsweek, October 9, 2006, I read that many people across the US are fasting for different reasons, but all are doing so to support Muslims in this country and all over the world. In an excerpt from the article, "Belief Watch Fast Friends", Imam Tahir Anwar of the South Bay Islamic Association near San Francisco calls it, "one of the most powerful gestures of friendship {non-Muslims} can make to us."

I've never fasted before-never, ever! But if I can do it, anyone can, 'Inshallah'.  Of course if you are pregnant or having health problems, do not try to do this.

More readings to come in '08. I'll keep you posted!

 First Public Reading

On August 12, 2006 we held our first public reading at the Java Shack in Arlington, Virginia.  The story delighted the children and the coffee and snacks pleased the adults.  Thank you Dale, for allowing me to display my book and hold readings at your coffee hang out, voted #1 in the DC area.
